Tips from
the Techie Timely
how-to advice for keeping your systems running
It seems like at
least twice a year that we hear about some "destructive
computer virus" that can cripple your system, and actually it
is more frequent than that. If you have not fallen victim to
virus attacks, then it is probably the result of one of three
reasons:
1. You do not
send and receive email 2. You do not share files with
anyone 3. Or, YOU ARE EXTREMELY
LUCKY!
You might see the symptoms of a
viral attack and then again you might not. Computer viruses
are becoming more frequent each month, and one way to prevent
an attack is to make sure that you are running Anti-Virus
software with the most current virus definitions loaded.
Current virus definition lists are
the key to your computer's protection. Virus definitions
detail what criteria your virus protecion software should look
for when searching files for a virus. These update files are
created weekly by McAfee and Symantec (aka. Norton) and should
be routinely downloaded and installed on your pc. If you have
virus software loaded on your PC, this software should allow
you to search the manufacturer's website for current virus
definitions and install them. If you have any problems
completing this task, please check the software manufacturer's
website or just call us. We will be happy to assist you in
protecting your system with the latest software protection.
One thing to
remember; the best way protect your data from
exposure to virus attacks is being cautious. If you receive an
email from someone that you do not know and they have a file
that "you've got to see", then think twice before opening it.
You very well could save yourself some grief and money.
