Tips from the Techie Timely
how-to advice for keeping your systems
running
John AndersEn Owner, John AndersEn & Co LLC
The year 2000 is practically behind us now and it's
time to pass along some lessons learned.
Are
you ready for a Disaster? Who would have
guessed that all the preparations for the big "Year 2000"
could have been forgotten so quickly? It is true that there
was really nothing to fear, but there were some experiences
that should be repeated. The primary one was learning to
evaluate the role of computers in our lives. It is comforting
to know that they didn't bring the world into demise as
predicted, but don't let that fact lull you into
unawareness.
|
| Now is the time to prepare for the
year ahead |
| Have a Plan! Have you considered what ramification an equipment
failure would have on your business? Have you invested in
sufficient redundancy to keep your livelihood afloat should a
disaster occur? These issues need to be reviewed periodically
and the annual changing of the calendar is a good time to do
so. Consider formulating a written plan for what you would do
should you experience an outage lasting a day, a week, or
possibly even a month. And, just like the Year 2000
preparations, an outage could occur in any arena of life from
your computer system to your telephone connection, to
financial crisis. So don't despair, just think it through!
Make whatever arrangements need to be made now and
should the worst happen, you'll be
ready!
